  • 2 cups cooked rice your favorite type (jasmine, sushi, or brown rice)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 count onion thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp sake
  • 5-6 count shiso leaves finely chopped
  • to taste salt and pepper for seasoning
  • optional sliced green onions for garnish

Equipment

  • Large Skillet

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Step 2: Add the sliced onion and sauté until softened, about 3 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Step 4: Increase the heat to high and add the sliced beef. Cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Stir in the soy sauce, mirin, and sake. Cook for another 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  6. Step 6: Remove from heat and fold in the chopped shiso leaves. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Step 7: Serve the beef mixture over cooked rice and garnish with sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop, adding a splash of water if needed to keep the rice moist.
