Ingredients

For the Buri Daikon
  • 2 pieces yellowtail (buri) cut into fillets
  • 1 medium daikon radish peeled and cut into thick rounds
  • 4 cups dashi stock
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp sake
Optional Garnish
  • Green onions

Equipment

  • Pot

Method

  1. Step 1: Start by bringing the dashi stock to a gentle simmer in a pot over medium heat. The aroma of the dashi will set the stage for a fantastic meal!
  2. Step 2: Once bubbling, add the daikon rounds to the pot. Cook them for about 10-15 minutes, or until they start to soften. This is where the magic begins!
  3. Step 3: While the daikon is cooking, mix together the soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sake in a separate bowl. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved; it should be a lovely, glossy mixture.
  4. Step 4: Now, gently add the yellowtail fillets and the soy sauce mixture to the pot with the daikon. The fish will soak up all those delicious flavors!
  5. Step 5: Cover the pot and let it simmer for an additional 20-25 minutes. This is the perfect time to set the table or prepare some rice to go along with your dish.
  6. Step 6: Once cooked, remove the pot from heat and let it sit for a few minutes. This helps the flavors meld even more.
  7. Step 7: Serve your Buri Daikon hot, garnished with green onions if desired. Enjoy the warmth and comfort of this beautiful dish!
