- Step 1: Start by rinsing the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the porridge from becoming too gummy.
- Step 2: In a pot, combine the rinsed rice and water or chicken broth. If you’re using broth, it’ll add a lovely depth of flavor.
- Step 3: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, keeping an eye on it to prevent it from overflowing.
- Step 4: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 30-40 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking and to prevent sticking.
- Step 5: If you’re using salt, stir it in during the last few minutes of cooking for the best flavor.
- Step 6: Serve hot, topped with your choice of toppings.
Notes
If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When reheating, add a splash of water or broth to loosen it up.
