  • 2 cups Japanese short-grain rice sticky and perfect for sushi
  • 2.5 cups water crucial for achieving fluffy texture
  • 1/4 tsp salt optional for flavor enhancement

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. Step 2: Drain the rice and place it in your rice cooker or heavy-bottomed pot.
  3. Step 3: Add the water and salt (if using) to the rice.
  4. Step 4: If using a rice cooker, close the lid and start cooking. If using a pot, bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
  5. Step 5: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 18-20 minutes or until the water is absorbed.
  6. Step 6: Remove from heat and let sit covered for an additional 10 minutes.
  7. Step 7: Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.

Notes

Leftover rice can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
