Ingredients

Japanese Short Grain Rice
  • 2 cups Japanese short grain rice This type of rice is sticky and perfect for holding its shape.
  • 2.5 cups water The right amount of water ensures fluffy, tender rice.

Equipment

  • Rice Cooker
  • Medium Saucepan

Method

  1. Step 1: Rinse the rice under cold running water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. Step 2: Drain the rice well and transfer it to your rice cooker or a medium saucepan.
  3. Step 3: Add the measured water to the rice.
  4. Step 4: If using a rice cooker, close the lid and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions. If using a saucepan, bring the water to a boil over medium heat.
  5. Step 5: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let it simmer for 18-20 minutes.
  6. Step 6: After cooking, remove the rice from heat but keep it covered. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the rice to steam and become fluffy.
  7. Step 7: Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

Leftover rice can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. When reheating, add a little water to the rice to help it steam back to that perfect fluffy texture.
