Method
- Step 1: Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- Step 2: In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Step 3: Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 20 minutes or until water is absorbed.
- Step 4: After the water is absorbed, remove from heat and let sit, covered, for another 10 minutes.
- Step 5: In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. This is your rice seasoning.
- Step 6: Transfer the cooked rice to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture. Allow to cool to room temperature.
- Step 7: Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo mat. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice evenly over the nori.
- Step 8: Add desired fillings in a line across the center of the rice.
- Step 9: Using the mat, carefully roll the sushi away from you, applying gentle pressure to form a tight roll.
- Step 10: Seal the edge of the nori with a little water, slice into pieces, and serve.
Notes
For best results, enjoy sushi fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
